The Master and Margarita — Mikhail Bulgakov
⭐⭐ A few interesting glimpses of life in Moscow in the 1920s. The Devil and Pontius Pilate sections are also interesting but don’t get much play. Beyond that there doesn’t seem to be much going on. The fantasy elements are a slog to get through.
What the Buddha Taught — Walpola Rahula
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great, accessible intro. Interesting comparison between the Buddha’s focus on self-development and Jesus’ focus on morality. Also interesting to see how much modern therapy draws on secularized Buddhism.
